2nd Amendment Insanity

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Last Friday I stepped out of work for lunch with my colleague. At the restaurant where we decided to dine, the TV highlighted Newtown, CT school massacre. Though the volume was in mute, the agony it caused was indiscernible from the images that flashed on the wide screen.

Later that evening, while viewing CNN it was hard to hold back tears especially when they showed Noah Pozner, one of the 6 year olds who was gunned down with an assault rifle in the massacre. He reminded me of my own son and the danger that awaits school going kids in US with the precipitously climbing gun violence.

It is astonishing how NRA (National Rifle Association) and GOA (Gun Owners of America) defend themselves with oblivious arguments, despite numerous inexplicable tragedies. A classic example would be interview of Piers Morgan with Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America where Pratt went to the extent of suggesting educators being armed with guns. Imagine the danger of a carelessly misplaced gun ending up with a school child. What an insane person with an illogical suggestion!

What about the impact on National Security? Guns are easier to access in US and there are already 300 million in circulation. I wonder if terrorists know this fact. Consider this hypothetical situation where 10 terrorists decide to buy assault rifles, walk into a public place and fire. Assuming each one kills at least 60, we have 600 innocent victims.

I hope this unfathomable incident will not end up as another forgotten heart- wrenching incident like others of its kind, with no action taken, long after media is gone. After all Second Amendment was not intended for gun violence and mass murder. So NRA and GOA enough is enough!

It's time government takes some actions!! If you look at the gun laws of different states, you would find that there is absolutely no control, say - registration, magazine limit etc.
